General information The Examinations Service of the Department of Higher Education is responsible for organising and holding validated and reliable examinations designed to ensure that participating candidates are assessed objectively. The examinations held by the Examinations Service fall into [three] categories:
Examinations organised and held exclusively by the Examinations Service for education purposes, including the Pancyprian Examinations, which serve twofold purpose, that is to obtain the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and obtain a position at the Public Universities of Cyprus and Greece. Additionally, the Examinations Service is responsible of the New System of teachers’ appointment to the Public Education of Cyprus.
Examinations organised and held by the Examinations Service in collaboration with other Services and Organisations for the purposes of recruitment, promotion, accreditation, language proficiency, including examinations for registration as a certified translator.
Examinations for recruitment to the public service.
Examinations for entrance at the Fine Art Institutions. The Examinations Service organises entrance examinations for the Fine Art Institutions of Greece and the Fine Arts Department of the Cyprus University of Technology.
Greek shorthand and typing examinations. These examinations are held twice a year, on dates announced by the Examinations Service.
Language proficiency examinations Additionally, the Examinations Service organises the language proficiency examinations. The annual examination schedule is posted on the Examinations Service website.
Examinations for the certification of the elementary knowledge of Greek (level A2) for immigrants and foreign nationals
Examinations for the certification of the intermediate proficiency in Greek (level B1)
Examinations for the certification of the advanced proficiency in Greek (level C1)
Examinations for the certification of the mastery of Greek (level C2)
Examinations for the certification of the upper intermediate proficiency in English (level B2)
Examinations for the certification of the advanced proficiency in English (level C1)
Examinations for the certification of the mastery of English (level C2)
Written examinations under the new education appointment system for registration and classification on teacher appointment lists.
